Nigeria: sports day

To mark the 60th anniversary of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit in Nigeria, a new event was held on Tuesday 7 May 2024 at St Lawrence Grammar School, Ilesa, in honour of the ESF missionaries who have provided educational services at the school for many years.

The milestone event saw various performances between the Daughters of the Holy Spirit of the Vice-Province of Nigeria, Associates, staff, students and pupils from the various institutions where the Daughters of the Holy Spirit work.
The Vice-Provincial, Sister Anthonia Ayeni, thanked God on behalf of the sisters for the grace of attending this 60th anniversary of their existence and also thanked all those who took the time to participate in the activities.

The day was especially devoted to sport. The DHS dressed up in their finest for a friendly football match, initiated by the vice-provincial, between Sacred Heart High School Ipetu Ijesa and Holy Spirit High School, Modakeke. Afterwards, children from the nursery and primary schools presented a variety of enthusiastic cultural demonstrations: – Holy Spirit Nursery and Primary School, Modakeke, – Maryland Catholic Nursery and Primary School, Ogbomoso, – Sacred Heart Nursery and Primary School, Ipetu Ijesa, – Amazing Grace Nursery and Primary School, Osogbo, – St. Monica Nursery and Primary School, Ilesa, – St. Martha Nursery and Primary School, Owode-Ede Osogbo, – St. Mary’s Rehabilitation and Development Centre Ipetumodu – and Amazing Grace Secondary School, Osogbo.

It was a pleasure for the DHS Family of the Vice-Province of Nigeria to see the sisters happily express their sporting talents!
It was in fact a great and beautiful opportunity for the sisters to feel at home, to exercise themselves and above all to prepare with greater zeal and interest for the grand finale of the 60th anniversary celebrations.
