Sustainability/simple life style

Pope Francis has issued an encyclical Dilexit nos : On human and Divine love from the heart of Jesus. This encyclical reveal that Jesus loved us (Rm 8, 37); “We have recognized God’s love for us and have believed in it” (Jn 4 ,16)
Laudato Si gives another way of understanding quality of life: “Christian spirituality proposes and encourages a prophetic and contemplative lifestyle, to appreciate things without being obsessed by consumption. It also proposes sobriety and calls for simplicity…”.  (from no. 222 to no. 227)
In this Jubilee year, when we are invited to be pilgrims of hope, and in this Lenten season, we are called to take up the challenge of increased vulnerability to climate impacts such as drought, floods, deforestation, and all kinds of injustice that affect human dignity.

Reflection.
Virtues like simplicity, sobriety and humility are not signs of weakness or fear. They enable us not to become attached to the things we possess, but help us to be content with what is necessary without becoming sad. In the same sense our Rule of Life in article 20 paragraph1 and article 21, advises these same virtues.
– Am I ready to acknowledge my actions that harm society and the environment?
– Am I attentive enough to the words of love that nature offers me?
– The Word comforts, transforms, converts and heals. Am I ready to witness it to others?

Suggestions.
Christ’s mission is a mission of love, and it’s ours too;
– Stop to give thanks to God daily and strengthen our solidarity with the poor.
– Plan reforestation at the right time, as a sign of respect for our Creator.
– Collaborate in church and especially with the groups we accompany, raising awareness of the need for justice and peace in our world.
– Protect and keep green spaces in our communities.
– Speak kind words to those who listen to us
– Know how to ask forgiveness and to say thank you to everyone.
– Be faithful to prayer, to draw our strength from God.

Prayer.
Lord, so that truth may have its essence in me, convert my heart. Grant me the grace to put your teachings into practice, so that in me and around me, our world becomes more just and fraternal. Grant our rulers the wisdom and humility to govern your people well.,Through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.
